Statement:
Flame Vessel was initially inspired by a line of poetry by Anne Allanketner. Anne’s poem spoke of our inner tuning fork, which I immediately appreciated as an image for our inward knowing of what ‘resonates’ for us or ‘strikes a chord’ in our hearts. The ribs are modeled off of my own, from an x-ray made after a serious car accident in 2005. I was deeply impressed by seeing the lung-shaped cathedral or sacred space in the middle of my body! The wings speak to me of transformation and listening closely for guidance and direction, since they are Orange Map Wing Butterfly wings as used in Opening.
