Art text: pilgrimage – migration
Statement:
Migration is inspired by “Tilt,” a beautiful essay in the book My Story as Told by Water by David James Duncan. Duncan explains that when birds migrate, the surface of the earth is moving under them as they stay in the same solar position in orbit. So the birds don’t move, really– we on the earth do, as the planet tilts in seasonal position around the sun. This got me thinking about how much I was traveling, both in person and as I sent my prayers around the globe. This painting migration asks whether I can remain flexible enough to migrate when I need to keep my SOUL-ar position? The gorgeous Sandhill Crane inspires me as I learn. I also want to honor and help protect other people and species who find themselves on the move on the surface of our beautiful planet, across borders and ecosystems.
